A Western first name is written in katakana, the Japanese alphabet reserved for words that came from abroad. It transcribes the sounds of the name: Alexander becomes アレクサンダー, Isabella becomes イザベラ. Each pair carries the text engraved lengthwise, like the named Japanese chopsticks everyone keeps at home.

Hashi chopsticks are cut from a dense hardwood with a deep reddish-brown tone and a fine, close grain. Low in porosity, it takes on a darker patina over time and stands up well to daily use. Unlike stainless steel or melamine chopsticks, it stays warm and pleasant in the hand.

They are square near the hand and taper towards the tip: a shape that sits well in the hand, does not roll off the table and picks up small pieces precisely. The matte finish keeps the feel of the wood intact, far from plastic and metal.

How is my name written in Japanese?

No, they come as a set of 5 pairs, that is 10 sticks. This is the traditional format of a Japanese chopstick set, where each person has their own.

What wood are the chopsticks made of?

These are table chopsticks. Japanese cooking chopsticks, called saibashi, are much longer, often 30 to 35 cm, so you can work over a pan or a fryer. Hashi chopsticks are made for eating, not for cooking.

Are these chopsticks made in Japan?

No. They follow the shape and proportions of traditional Japanese chopsticks, and the Japanese engraving is checked by a specialist, but they are not made in Japan. We would rather say so plainly.

How long does production take?

Because every pair is engraved for you, allow 7 to 10 days for production, then 7 to 10 days of tracked delivery. The transcription approval email is sent right after your order.

How do I care for wooden chopsticks?
